How to Prepare for Your Maternity Photography Session

Congratulations on your pregnancy 🤍

Bringing a baby into the world is a wonderful life event that should be captured. It’s a time you are going to want to remember and share with your little one once they are a bit older. If you are thinking about or have recently booked a maternity photo session then the below 6 tips should come in handy as you prepare for your session.

6 Tips to Prepare for Your Maternity Photoshoot

Schedule Your Session

Schedule your session between 31 and 36 weeks as your tummy should have popped and have a beautiful shape. By booking your maternity session during this time you are also past the discomfort and bloating that happens earlier in the pregnancy.

Treat Yourself

Treat yourself to a neutral or light coloured manicure prior to your maternity session so that you can take some beautiful shots with your hands on your tummy.

Prepare On The Day

For Your Session

If you already have some cute baby items such as shoes, hats, toys, blankets or onesies, bring them along as they make for adorable props. The same applies to family heirlooms. If you have a special locket or photo that you would like to use, bring it along too.

Ultrasound Photos

More and more mums are using their in their photo sessions. If you aren’t too sure whether you want to use it or not, bring it to the shoot anyway and decide on the day.

Get You Hair And Makeup Done Professionally

I like to recommend that my clients think about getting hair and makeup done professionally, Few things make us feel as confident and as beautiful as getting freshly styled, and that confidence can shine through in the photography.

Make Sure You Have The

Right Underwear

Of course, you want to look good in your photos, Make sure you have the right underwear and bra. For example, if you’re wearing a white dress, you don’t want to wear dark panties that will show through the fabric. And if you plan on doing partially nude images, make sure to bring along lacy undergarments that will look good in your photos. I always recommend nude underwear and strapless bras, and some black and white underwear.

Don’t Stress

It’s easier said than done, but do your best to relax and not worry about your session. Your photographer will walk you through every pose and position. All you have to do is be your natural, beautiful self!
